14 nerdy travel podcasts you should be listening to

You may not know this about me, but I’m a bit of a podcast listener. At any given time, I have a dozen or so shows in regular rotation, plus another batch I dip into when the mood strikes. (And yes—I also contribute to Gametime on Extra Hot Great, so podcasts are truly part of my world.)

With International Podcast Day coming up, I thought it was the perfect excuse to share some of my favorite travel podcasts. These shows keep me company on long flights, inspire new destinations, and offer practical tips that actually make traveling easier. Below you’ll find some of my regular listens, along with a few gems I discovered while putting this list together. Let’s roll.

The Thought Card - This is the podcast that promises to have ‘Smart Travel Tips and Travel Hacking For Financially Savvy Travelers’. Host Danielle Corbett gives listeners resource for traveling often without giving up other financial goals. And what’s more nerdy than travelling while looking after your finances?

The Atlas Obscura Podcast - This show opens with the description of ‘A celebration of the world’s strange, incredible, and wondrous places’, and this couldn’t be more perfect. We LOVE this website and use it all the time in our travel planning. So the podcast really appeals to my love of the detail and unique local finds. 10 out of 10.

DK Where to Go: The Travel Podcast - As a former children’s librarian, DK was always that series of books that would offer a great overview of a topic for any age. So I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show. But this was much more considered, thoughtful and inspiring than I first thought. I took notes of so many resources and I’m really looking forward to digging into their back catalogue.

Passports Please - Host Chelsea Dickenson (AKA - Cheap Holiday Expert) and James Robinson (who often joins Chelsea on these adventures) offer tips on how to ‘hack your holidays’ and get more out of your precious holiday time and budget. You may have seen Chelsea on her popular You Tube Channel (which yes, we watch too). Other travel podcasts on my radar

There were far too many shows for me to cover in this small post, but here is a list of others that I would like to spend some time with.

Zero To Travel — Jason Moore shares inspiring travel stories and practical advice on everything from long-term backpacking to family trips.

Women Who Travel (Condé Nast Traveler) — Conversations with women who are shaping the way we see the world, from solo adventurers to chefs and writers

Travel Tales Podcast — Comedians and writers share funny, honest, and sometimes cringe-worthy stories from their travels.

Armchair Explorer — Each episode tells one traveler’s story with cinematic sound design, making you feel like you’re right there in the adventure.

Out of Office: A Travel Podcast — Two friends mix destination deep-dives with cultural conversations, often with a humorous spin.

Indie Travel Podcast — Long-running show focused on independent and responsible travel, often with a couple’s perspective. Hosted by Craig and Linda Martin.

I hope this list helps you find your next great travel podcast. I’ve learned so much from these shows and even bookmarked new resources for upcoming trips—not to mention adding a few destinations to my wish list. Here’s to more journeys, more stories, and more episodes in our ears.
